ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth College jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first nine minutes Thursday and went on to defeat visiting Geneseo in women's lacrosse, 11-7.

Ellen Fanning (DeSales HS/Geneva, NY) and Shawna Kabot (Horseheads HS/Horseheads, NY) each scored twice and Allison Roberts (Irondequoit HS/Rochester, NY) contributed two assists as Nazareth was building a 5-0 lead.

Geneseo closed to within 6-2 by halftime, but Nazareth opened the second half with three straight goals -- two by Kabot and one from Lorra Podsiadlo (Penn Yan Academy/Penn Yan, NY) -- to create a 9-2 lead.

Kabot finished with one assist in addition to her game-high four goals. Roberts finished with two goals and three assists.

Katie Rocco (Cortland HS/Cortland, NY) scored three goals for Geneseo -- all in the latter stages of the second half. Betsy Meldrim (Cortland HS/Cortland, NY) added one goal and one assist and goalie Allison Buda (Eastridge HS/Rochester, NY) had 15 saves.

Nazareth, now 10-3 overall, hosts Ithaca Saturday to determine the champion of the Empire 8 Conference and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
