ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth College scored four straight goals over the last four minutes of the third quarter Saturday to snap a 4-4 tie and the Golden Flyers went on to an 8-4 victory over Washington College in men's lacrosse.

Nazareth (1-0), ranked fifth in Division III, got its first victory under the direction of first-year coach Rob Randall, who replaced Scott Nelson last fall. Washington (1-2), ranked seventh, dropped its second straight game.

Nazareth led 4-2 at halftime, then Washington tied the score 4-4 on extra-man goals by Craig Rentch (Annapolis, MD) and Steve Berger (Jessup, MD) early in the third quarter.

Nazareth regained the lead with four straight goals, including three in the last 53 seconds of the quarter. Senior attackman Jim Cianfrocca (West Genesee/Camillus, NY) scored the go-ahead goal off a pass from junior midfielder P.J. Rosecrans (Niskayuna/Schenectady, NY). Then junior attackmen Avery Burke (Homer/Homer, NY) and Josh Lewis (Corning East/Corning, NY) scored, before Cianfrocca closed out the scoring with just :04 left in the quarter off a pass from defenseman Ethan Sleeman (Fairport/Fairport, NY).

Rentch scored just 12 seconds into the game to give Washington an early 1-0 lead. Nazareth then used two goals each from Eric Goodberlet (Rush-Henrietta/Henrietta, NY) and Al Terilli (Rush-Henrietta/Henrietta, NY) to take a 4-1 advantage.

Senior Rob Carroll (Horseheads/Elmira, NY) made nine saves in his first straight for the Golden Flyers in goal. Washington's John Chrismer (Darlington, MD) had 13 saves.
