NAZARETH OUTLASTS RENSSELAER, 15-14
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior midfielder Jeff Monroe (Fayetteville-Manlius HS/Fayetteville, NY) scored an unassisted goal with 2:17 left in regulation Sunday, snapping a 14-14 tie and lifting Nazareth to a 15-14 victory over Rensselaer in a quarterfinal round game in the NCAA Division III Tournament for men's lacrosse.

The victory lifts Nazareth into the semifinals for the 11th time. The Golden Flyers (15-0) will host the Middlebury next Saturday at 1 p.m. Middlebury (15-1) defeated Ithaca, 18-7, in another quarterfinal game.

Nazareth twice had three-goal leads in the second half only to have Rensselaer rally and eventually take a 14-13 lead on Lucas Ruglis' goal at 5:48 of the fourth quarter. Nazareth's P.J. Rossecrans (Niskayuna HS/Schenectady, NY) scored his third goal of the game at 8:36 to tie the score at 14-14 and set the stage for Monroe, who scored on a left-handed bounce shot in close to the cage.

Nazareth led 7-6 at halftime, but Rensselaer tied the score at 7-7 on Dave Perlman's goal 54 seconds into the third quarter. Nazareth appeared poised to take command by scoring three straight goals to go ahead 10-7. Rensselaer answered with three straight goals of their own before Nazareth's Chad Kuczek (Auburn HS/Auburn, NY) made it 11-10 with just two seconds left in the third quarter.

Goals by Brian Roden and Rosecrans early in the fourth quarter pushed Nazareth's lead back to three goals, 13-10, but four straight Rensselaer goals gave the Red Hawks their first lead, 14-13, since the opening quarter.

Kuczek finished with three goals and one assist for Nazareth. Rosecrans added three goals and Jim Cianfrocca (West Genesee HS/Syracuse, NY) scored twice. Senior goalie Rob Carroll (Horseheads HS/Elmira, NY) made 14 saves.

The Red Hawks (10-4) got four goals from Perlman, three goals and two assists from Ben Terzulli and six assists from Tom Terzulli. Sophomore goalie Matthew Moog made 18 saves.
