MIDDLEBURY OUTSCORES NAZARETH IN MEN'S LACROSSE, 13-8
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Middlebury College scored seven straight goals bridging the third and fourth quarters to erase a 5-5 halftime tie Saturday and the Panthers went on to a 13-8 victory over Nazareth College in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament at Nazareth.

The victory boosts Middlebury (14-1) into the Division III championship game for the second year in a row. The Panthers will play next Sunday in College Park, Md. against the winner of Sunday's game between Salisbury State (16-1) and Washington & Lee (16-1). The loss was the first of the season for the Golden Flyers (13-1).

Tied 5-5 at halftime, Middlebury got a pair of third-period goals from sophomore midfielder Matt Dunn (Kent, CT) and one each from Jamie Haire (Summit, NJ) and Greg Carroll (Topsfield, MA) to build a 9-5 advantage.

Middlebury then opened the fourth quarter by scoring three times in the first 1:17 to extend the Panthers' lead to 12-5. Sophomore attackman Zach Herbert (Cape Elizabeth, ME) scored just 13 seconds into the fourth quarter and Dunn added an unassisted goal just 17 seconds after that. Junior attackman Holt Hopkins (Baltimore, MD) added his fifth goal of the game at 1:17 of the fourth quarter to give Middlebury its largest lead at 12-5.

Nazareth closed within 12-7 on goals by Jeff Keys (Fairport, NY) and Eric Goodberlet (Henrietta, NY), but Dunn scored his fifth goal of the game for the Panthers late in the fourth quarter to make it 13-8.

Middlebury led 4-2 after the first quarter as Hopkins scored three times. Nazareth battled back to tie the score 5-5 by halftime behind second-quarter goals from Al Terilli (Henrietta, NY), Josh Lewis (Corning, NY), and Jeff Beckhorn (Henrietta, NY).

Hopkins and Dunn each scored five goals for the Panthers, who lost to Salisbury in last year's title game. Carroll and Herbert each had one goal and one assist. The Golden Flyers got three goals from junior midfielder Al Terilli (Henrietta, NY) and 23 saves from senior goalie Jake Coon (Homer, NY).
